What is Your Body Fat Percentage (BF%)?!

Many of us are aiming for a 6-pack (or even 8-pack) abs. We tend to exercise a lot, do intense workouts, and practice a strict diet plan to be lean, fit, and burn the excess fats in our body. And to achieve those sexy flat abs and hot body physique, what we consider is the so called Body Fat Percentage. Body Fat Percentage... then what is it?!

Body Fat Percentage or the BF%  is actually the amount of fat in our body, compared to everything else.  Everything else includes our organs, muscles, bones, tendons, water, and so on. It is assessing what portion of our body is made up of fat. The remaining weight spread between organs, water, muscle tissues, bones, etc.

Mathematically speaking, for example, if you weigh 200 pounds, and 20 pounds of that is fat, then your body fat percentage is 10%. 30 pounds of fat would put it at 15%, 40 pounds at 20%, and so forth. The rest we refer to as your lean mass.

Now you imagine how your body looks like with a lesser BF% compared to a higher one?! Alright, yours truly Runner Rocky will show you an actual chart of how the body looks like these variations of body fat.

Since men and women differ in BF%, here are the two charts for men and women with different Body Fat Percentage:

The Body Fat Percentage Chart for Women

The Body Fat Percentage is not only interpreted via body forms. There are also corresponding names for each category. Are you fit, athletic, or obese?! Well, these will be determined if you know your BF%. And the below table tells you where you are:

Now the question goes, how can we determine or measure our BF%?

There are quite a few methods of measuring body fat; the most common methods are the following (in order of probable accuracy)

1. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA Scan)
2. Hydrostatic Testing (Underwater Density Test)
3. Air Displacement Plethysmograph (BOD POD)
4. SKULPT Device
5. Skinfold Measurement (Skin Pinch with Calipers)
6. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (Handheld/Scale device)
7. Height and circumference methods (Measurement Collections)

Too technical isn't it?! But if you're not familiar with those mentions, there are equipment that directly measure your BF%.

Gyms have that instrument which measure your BF%. In my experience, I measured mine using the said tool in my gym wherein I handled that tool and it outputs my BF% result.

A well-known drugstore in the country also provide an equipment to test our BF%. Just drop Php5, follow the instructions and presto... your BF% will be revealed!

Now that you know your BF% and how you can get it, it will motivate you to be more fit and will help you achieve your desired sexy body or 6-pack abs!

So let's go, gym workout again after my work shift! 01/18/2018 (Runner Rocky)
